We are just a few days away from the official launch of Intel’s new Alder Lake CPUs, which will be available to consumers on November 4. Along with these new processors, ASUS will be releasing new motherboards. These new motherboards will be required to run Intel’s new CPUs, but they will also be packed with several new and exciting features.

Intel’s new lineup of CPUs is as follows:

  • i9–12900K: 16 cores / 24 threads
  • i9–12900KF: 16 cores / 24 threads
  • i7–12700K: 12 cores / 20 threads
  • i7–12700KF: 12 cores / 20 threads
  • i5–12600K: 10 cores / 16 threads
  • i5–12600KF: 10 cores / 16 threads

These new processors will have an entirely new socket and a new chipset, which will require new motherboards. ASUS will be releasing new motherboards on the same day, which will support Intel’s new processors. The new line of Z690 motherboards will come in several flavors, with the higher end boards supporting several cutting edge features aimed at improving performance. Intel’s Alder Lake processors, along with select Z690 motherboard models from ASUS, will be the first consumer products to support DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0. DDR5 RAM will supersede DDR4 in terms of speeds, bandwidth, and power efficiency, while PCIe 5.0 will allow greater transfer rates via PCIe connection for video cards and storage devices such as NVMe SSDs. Currently there are no video cards or SSDs that support PCIe 5.0, but the first PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSD is rumored to launch some time next year, with a max read speed of 14 GB/s.
